Conversational Grinding Package - CNC Engineering Inc.

The company's Open Vision HMI grinding software is a conversational grinding package developed for Internal (ID), External (OD) and specialty grinding machines. The package is said to combine the reliability of GE Fanuc controls with the flexibility of an industrial PC. The system has been designed to interface with various gauging

packages.

This grinding software is said to offer ease of use through simplified, intuitive menus, thus reducing the number of keystrokes required to perform tasks.

The industrial PC front-end also allows the use of third party software packages that run under the Windows environment. The creation, editing and viewing of programs can be executed either on the grinder or through a PC-based optional offline conversational programmer.

The software has been designed with traditional grinding capabilities such as run-time display of size-correct-value; constant surface speed; skip dress; wheel offsets; axis data position and rate; grinding types such as plunge, oscillation and vector, all applied to any grind direction; wheel data including wheel diameter, wheel surface speed, and wheel power load.

It also features enhanced features such as the ability to skip, insert or delete any operation sequence; optional remote diagnostics; background edit; online help; adaptive control capability; interfaces with various gages; conversational contour dress programmer.

The conversational programmer allows for programming of multi-surfaces. Users can employ multi-wheel and/or wheelheads in the same program. Furthermore, the conversational programmer supports 16 different ancillary devices for controlling auto loaders, swing down dressers, probing and placing/replacing gauge mechanisms.

The software also includes the ability to program by part reference. This is accomplished by employing a separate coordinate system for the workpiece. The X-axis zero point can be placed either at the workpiece centerline or at the reference surface on the workpiece.

The "capture positions" feature enables the operator to quickly resolve workpiece offsets and dresser alignment. Route and device operation positions can also be captured. Programs can be imported/exported over a local area network or through a DNC system.

By means of a color-coded pictorial view, users can look at what operation is being performed at a particular time. The software also provides the capability to log cycle events into a time-stamp log or debug the running of a program and store the results in a file or display them on the screen.
