FANUC CNC History in North America

A timeline of FANUC CNC, Servo & Spindle history in the United States.

FANUC CNC Commercial History

In 1976, the GENERAL NUMERIC COPORATION was jointly established by FANUC and Siemens A.G. to oversee U.S. domestic sales & support of FANUC CNC systems. At nearly the same time, FANUC USA CORPORATION was established to provide service and parts for imported machine tools with FANUC controls.

In 1986, GE Fanuc Automation North America, Inc. was established through a joint partnership between FANUC and General Electric.  Like GENERAL NUMERIC, GE Fanuc was responsible for U.S. domestic sales & support of FANUC CNC products.  The joint venture between FANUC and General Electric dissolved in 2009 and transferred operations the newly established FANUC America.

Note: The following timeline contains approximate dates for the North American market, since FANUC typically introduces controls to the Japanese market first, before releasing them worldwide.
