Even More Standard Options for FANUC 0i-F Plus Controls

Friday, June 14, 2024

We have discovered that some of the new standard options in the FANUC 0i-F Plus controls have largely gone unnoticed. These control options check all the boxes for CNC Retrofit projects – low cost (these options are included!), improved accuracy, and decreased setup time and cycle time. Some of our favorite features that come pre-packaged with the 0i-F Plus are:

AI Contour Control II (for M Controls)

Definition
AI Contour Control II is used to enable high-precision machining at optimal machining speeds. This function suppresses path errors due to acceleration / deceleration delay, servo positioning delay, and mechanical and electro-mechanical machine performance constraints.
Without this function, machining profile errors would increase proportionally with the programmed path feedrate. In practice, this function is useful when cutting on complex part forms involving sudden cutter direction changes such as are found in die / mold machining.

Benefit
- Optimization of machining speeds using smooth acceleration / deceleration to minimize axis-overshoot errors

- Decrease of part-form tolerances suppressing acceleration / deceleration delays and servo lag
- Elimination of corner-clipping errors that typically increase as the feedrate increases.

Fast Cycle Time Setting

Definition
Fast Cycle Time Technology is, in short, interpolation planning, specifically designed for rapid positioning moves. To explain in another way, picture cars racing on a track. One car can perform better by its driver adjusting when and where she brakes and accelerates, such as accelerating out of a corner, or in other words, picking the fastest line. Fast Cycle Time Technology are those inputs informing the braking and accelerating decisions.

Fast Cycle Time aims at getting improvements out of low-hanging fruit, such as in positioning for spot drilling, drilling and tapping. Parts that require many of these types of operations will see a significant reduction in cycle time. Additionally, because only non-cutting moves are affected, surface quality is untouched.

Benefit
- Improved productivity

- Reduced cycle time

Fine Surface Machining

Definition
FANUC’s recommended values can be set by batch in parameters related to high-quality machining. Three kinds of parameter settings (called setting patterns) are available for several parameters (called selectable parameters). Moreover, operators can select an effective setting pattern from machine tool builders’ made patterns depending on the machining conditions. For these reasons, this function makes it easier to set parameters related to high-quality machining and to choose parameters according to the machining conditions.

Two screens are available in Fine surface setting; Fine surface setting screen, and Pattern select screen. Setting patterns are prepared in Fine surface setting screen. A setting pattern is selected in Pattern select screen.

Benefit
- Increased cycle time and surface finish

Capable of utilizing multiple profiles through G codes

Machining Condition Selection Functions (for M Controls)fanuc_machining_condition_select

Definition
Machining Condition Selection Function (MCSF) is a programmable way for the operator to set a level of machine accuracy while also
optimizing productivity. With 10 defined steps, speed can be prioritized during roughing and then precision for the final finishing cuts.

Benefit
- Optimize the machining cycles
- Better quality
- Reduced machining time

Smart Rigid Tapping

Definition
Smart rigid tapping is the tapping function that uses maximum spindle power in all speed range. As the servo axis follows spindle axis with using FSSB communication, the synchronous error is small. The fastest rigid tapping can be achieved with no parameter tuning basically

Benefit
- Reduce the risk of breaking taps

- Auto detect bottom out and tap throughs
- Increase cycle time
